AUDITORY RECOGNITION OF CHINESE-JAPANESE COGNATES AND HOMOGRAPHS BY CHINESE JFL LEARNERS

This study examines the influence of Chinese semantics and phonology on auditory lexical processing Japanese Kanji words by as a foreign language (JFL) intermediate learners in decision task translation task. The results two experiments show that during words, (1) is activated rapidly inhibits activation Chinese-Japanese homographs, with stronger inhibitive effect homographs high phonological similarity; (2) semantic both cognates inhibitory than cognates; (3) information therefore shows dual effects similarity word processing. These suggest there will be strong negative impacts who mainly rely orthography, process learning.
